SUMMARY
In the distant past, humans resided beneath the sea, but some opted to abandon their underwater existence and permanently settle on the surface. Unfortunately, this decision would result in the loss of their divine protection, known as "Ena," which once enabled them to breathe underwater. As time passed, the chasm between the citizens of the sea and the surface continued to expand, though occasional interactions still occurred between the two groups. Nagi no Asu kara chronicles the experiences of Hikari Sakishima, Manaka Mukaido, Chisaki Hiradaira, and Kaname Isaki, childhood friends who must depart from their aquatic home and attend a surface school. While there, they come across Tsumugu Kihara, a fellow student and fisherman who venerates the sea. As Hikari and his companions navigate through their new lives, they must also contend with the pervasive hatred and marginalization between the inhabitants of the sea and the surface. Moreover, they must confront their own personal tribulations, as well as the approaching storm that threatens all who dwell on the surface.
