In his twelve years of life, young and brilliant alchemist Edward Elric has had to endure great loss. In an attempt to bring their deceased mother back to life through forbidden human transmutation, both Edward and his brother Alphonse suffer dire consequences. Edward loses two limbs while Alphonse's soul is bound to a bulky suit of armor. A year later, Edward's skills earn him the title of fullmetal alchemist and he sets out on a quest with his younger brother to procure the famed Philosopher's Stone. The stone is rumored to have extraordinary powers that can enhance an alchemist's abilities beyond imagination, letting them go beyond the deterrence of the fundamental rule of alchemy - sacrifice something of equal value to gain something. Edward dreams of accessing the military's vast resources to find the stone and restore their bodies, but as they delve deeper, they realize that the Philosopher's Stone is not what it seems. Their journey leads them to confront a much darker battle than they ever anticipated.
