33 years ago, the JAM, a race hailing from outside our planet, came through a portal located in Antarctica with the intention of taking over Earth. Humanity was caught off guard by the initial attacks, but united and successfully fought back. Eventually, the conflict was moved to a planet named Fairy, and although it is being kept mostly secret, the United Nations has established military bases and the technologically advanced Fairy Air Force (FAF) to wage war against the JAM. Lieutenant Rei Fukai is the dominant pilot in the FAF's Boomerang reconnaissance team. He commands a Super Sylph fighter jet named "Yukikaze" and uses it to gather valuable intelligence on JAM strategies from above. Fukai's aerial capabilities are unmatched, thanks to his jet's advanced weaponry and its nearly sentient AI system. Despite his exceptional flying skills, Fukai's curt and unfriendly demeanor has left him isolated from his fellow FAF colleagues. Nonetheless, he continues to carry out his duties dutifully alongside his partner Yukikaze. During one particularly brutal battle, Fukai is shocked when an unresponsive jet of the same make and model as his suddenly turns hostile.
