The story centers around the 2004 earthquake in Chuuetsu, Niigata prefecture, as depicted in a picture book. Mari had recently given birth to three adorable puppies, when the Yamakoshimura earthquake shattered their peaceful existence. The quake razed their home to the ground and left their elderly owner trapped in the debris. Mari, somehow freeing herself from her leash, rallied around the old man and lifted his spirits until rescue arrived. Although the old man was eventually saved, he couldn't accommodate the pups, and they were left behind in their now-abandoned town. Will Mari and her pups survive under such dire circumstances?
