The widespread belief in a far-off future is that wolves have been extinct for centuries, yet it is discovered that this is in fact false. The wolves have not disappeared, but rather they have transformed into human beings. A wolf named Kiba ventures into a city in search of the Lunar Flowers, whose scent is said to lead to paradise. The source of this scent is a girl named Cheza, who appears to be in a state of suspended animation in a laboratory. Kiba and the wolves are drawn to her and hope to find paradise. However, when Kiba locates Cheza, an enigmatic figure named Darcia abducts her, forcing Kiba to restart his search. Before he leaves the city, Kiba encounters three other wolves: Tsume, Hige, and Toboe. Though each wolf has a distinct personality and viewpoint, they eventually join forces in their quest for paradise. While their friendship is not without its difficulties, the wolves remain united in their journey.
