In 2003, Fuyu no Hin, an animated movie by Kihachiro Kawamoto, was released. The film drew inspiration from the renga composed by Basho, a notable Japanese poet from the 17th century. To adhere to the original collective spirit of the source material, a group of thirty-five animators from around the globe collaborated on the project. Each animator contributed unique visuals for their assigned 36 stanzas, and some of the industry's biggest names in animation participated. Yuriy Norshteyn's sequence was almost two minutes long while other animations ran for less than a minute. At the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2003, the final presentation, which consisted of forty minutes of animated film and a one-hour documentary, won the top prize. The animators were interviewed, and the film received high praise, cementing its place in the history of critical acclaim.
