Seirin High School's Basketball Team is seeking fresh talent to join as they embark on their second year. Their struggle to find new members is aided by the arrival of first-year recruits Taiga Kagami and Tetsuya Kuroko, whose exceptional skills offset their small numbers. Kagami is a basketball prodigy from America, while Kuroko, despite his unremarkable physique, was part of Teikou Middle School's renowned "Generation of Miracles" Basketball Team. After undergoing intense training to enhance their cohesion, Seirin is faced with a significant setback during the Interhigh championship when they confront Touou Academy, which is now home to Daiki Aomine, Kuroko's former teammate. Aomine, jaded by the lack of competition, single-handedly overwhelms Kagami and Kuroko's newly formed "light and shadow" alliance, proclaiming that they will never be able to surpass him and his "light." With the arrival of the Winter Cup, the re-energized Seirin is out for revenge against Touou. Despite the team's rigorous training, it may not be adequate to vanquish their foe, as Aomine begins to detect Kuroko and Kagami's methods.
