In the summer of 1983, Keiichi Maebara relocates to the serene Hinamizawa village and forms a close bond with his schoolmates - Rena Ryuuguu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou and Rika Furude. However, lurking beneath the tranquil exterior is a sinister secret. As preparations for the annual festival commence, Keiichi becomes privy to local legends that render him horrified. Various murders and disappearances have transpired in the village recently, all with a connection to the celebration and the deity Oyashiro. Keiichi attempts to unravel the mysteries, but his friends remain suspiciously tight-lipped, leaving him questioning his trust in them. As Keiichi spirals into madness and paranoia, he delves deeper into the enigmas of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, a multi-story arc.
