The setting of the show is the Fukagawa ward of old Edo which is now present-day Tokyo in the Edo period. Due to frequent fires and flooding, the residents of the area opt to rent everyday objects from Izumoya, a rental shop run by Obeni and Seiji, to avoid any hindrance during an escape. The rental shop specializes in offering essential objects like pots, futons, and clothes, and even has unique objects like tsukumogami, items that have developed spirits after being around for more than a century, in their inventory. The siblings, who are known for their expertise, occasionally lend out these objects to customers. Additionally, both Obeni and Seiji can see and talk with spirits, and other tsukumogami frequently visit the store to meet with them as they have become popular in the spirit world.
