The Walpurgis Royal Academy of Machinart was founded along with the introduction of Machinart, a magical ability that brought mechanical dolls to life and imbued them with intelligence, known as "automaton." The academy's primary goal was to train skilled individuals in navigating and controlling these automatons, as they were being employed by military forces globally. Raishin Akabane and his humanoid automaton, Yaya, were unable to pass the academy's entrance exams, and now they must defeat one of the top 100 performers to participate in the Evening Party. This occasion was a contest of talent and strength, pitting puppeteers and automatons against each other, with the winner being granted the title of "Wiseman" and access to the powerful, forbidden arts. Raishin sets his sights on Charlotte Belew and her automaton, Sigmund, to challenge them to a duel. However, before the fight could even take place, Sigmund was assaulted by other students. Raishin intervenes to rescue his foes, resulting in the cancellation of the duel. Nevertheless, Raishin is now tasked with discovering a new approach to gain entrance to the Party. With his tragic past, Raishin teams up with Yaya to climb up the ranks and claim the coveted Wiseman title.
