In a Japan of the future, androids are commonly utilized for a variety of tasks. However, the idea of treating them as equals to humans is frowned upon, and a possible android uprising looms large. Those who trust their robotic companions too much are labeled "dori-kei" or "android-holics." Rikuo Sakisaka, a high school student, becomes suspicious of his household android, Sammy, when she starts acting peculiarly and leaving the house without his authorization. Upon discovering a cryptic message in her logs that reads: "Are you enjoying the time of EVE?", Rikuo enlists the help of his buddy Masakazu Masaki to trail her movements. This leads them to the Time of Eve café, where discrimination between humans and machines is strictly forbidden. At Time of Eve, human and robot customers coexist peacefully. The café's regulars, which include the cheerful Akiko and a malfunctioning robot, all have their own personal struggles. As Rikuo delves into Sammy's conduct, he starts to question the idea that androids are mere tools without any consciousness or worth.
