During the turbulent feudal era of Japan, the Awa clan faced certain demise as their adversary secured reinforcement from demonic entities. Their salvation came at a cost, however, when their canine companion, bearing the head of the enemy warlord, demanded the hand of the lord's daughter in return. Though the curse inflicted upon them seemed dire, it resulted in the birth of eight puppies, who were born only to witness their parents' demise. As fate would have it, the eight pups reincarnated into the eponymous Dog Warriors, known as The Hakkenden, each seeking their individual paths of vengeance and ferocity. Over time, they united under the banner of bushido, the samurai code of honor, and emerged as a formidable force that finally vanquished the malevolent demons and restored their clan's honor.
