Living alone in the Chiba mountains after a devastating car accident claimed his mother's life and left him with a useless right hand, Tamahiko Shima has resigned himself to a life of pessimism and loneliness. His wealthier relatives and father have deemed him incapable, and he spends his days reading and sleepless nights consumed with angst. Tamahiko is determined not to bring disgrace to his family, so he has accepted his fate as a mountain recluse, waiting for death to release him from his pain.
But one snowy evening, someone knocks on Tamahiko's door, interrupting his insomnia. It's a 14-year-old girl named Yuzuki Tachibana, who announces that she's been sent to be his future wife. Tamahiko's father promised to send him a bride to help him with his daily struggles, and Yuzuki has been sold to repay her family's debts.
Despite her difficult circumstances, Yuzuki proves to be a kind, hardworking, and devoted helper to Tamahiko. Will Tamahiko, weighed down by his world-weariness, be able to appreciate the rare touch of kindness that Yuzuki brings to his monotonous life?
