The girls' tennis club consistently outperforms the boys' club, which is struggling due to their poor skills and disappointing match results. The club faces disbandment as their captain, Toma Shinjou, struggles to recruit new members. However, Toma's attention is piqued by a transfer student, Maki Katsuragi, who shows impressive reflexes when rescuing a stray cat in the classroom.
Though Toma urges Maki to join the boys' team, Maki initially declines as he has no interest in clubs. Yet, Toma persists, offering Maki payment and covered expenses. Maki eventually agrees, and his exceptional abilities quickly stand out among the team. This causes conflict within the group, but Maki pushes them to overcome their shortcomings and work harder.
The story centers on the boys discovering their potential and growing up in the midst of adversity, from personal struggles to the challenges of middle school.
