In 2199 AD, Yamato received a "Cosmo Reverse System" while at its destination, Iscandar, and attempted to leave the Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy. However, their journey was interrupted by a group called the "Gatlantis," led by their commander, "Goran Dagaamu of Thunder." Dagaamu demanded custody of Yamato, but the crew escaped to continue their mission to Earth. During their escape, Yamato was attacked with a devastating weapon called the "Flame Direct Attack Cannon." Lost and stranded in an irregular dimension, they stumbled upon a mysterious planet and sent a team to investigate. To their surprise, an unknown ship was discovered on the planet. Dagaamu pursued Yamato and also arrived at the planet, revealing that it was his objective all along.
