Originally produced in August 1974 for Yomiuri Television executives, the pilot film for Uchuu Senkan Yamato was unveiled to the public 16 years later through the Uchuu Senkan Yamato LD Box Set. Subsequent DVD/BD releases of the pilot omitted certain sounds/audio due to a copyright issue that had arisen in the intervening years.
