Lina and Gourry venture to Acassi, a picturesque seafront town renowned for its sumptuous octopus tentacles. Unfortunately, devouring the meat comes with a terrible curse that dulls the speaker's tongue to only octopus-speak (Takogo). Soon after their arrival, Amelia, Zelgadiss, and Xelloss arrive on the scene, and all four protagonists fall under the same curse. The octopi are determined to rid themselves of humanity once and for all, enlisting the services of a formidable mazoku. The only way to save the town is for Ruma, the white sorceress, to seek out her long-lost master and learn the cure to the perilous affliction.
