During 1947, the Shinjuku locals were experiencing a downtrodden time, with scarce funds to purchase food and essentials. As a means of survival, a few opted to gamble. Amongst them was Tetsuya, who visited Mahjong parlors and displayed exceptional prowess, besting his opponents easily. But when he encountered the extraordinarily skilled Boushu-san, Tetsuya recognized his own shortcomings.
