The Shirobako Specials comprise two OVAs that showcase the inaugural episodes of fictional TV anime series created by Musashino Animation in the Shirobako anime. The opening series, Exodus!: Shutsu Tokyo, chronicles the efforts of Tracy, a struggling idol group comprising Akane, Aya, and Alpine, as they endeavor to establish themselves in the music industry. Following a dismal performance at a supermarket that fails to pique audience interest, Akane confronts their indifferent manager, Taguchi, only to stumble upon his lifeless body in a storage room. Consequently, they become the prime suspects for his murder and, at the same time, achieve their aspirations for stardom. The second series, Daisan Hikou Shoujotai: FALLING ANGEL, revolves around the 307 Aerial Squad or "Hell Alice," battling alongside a worldwide military resistance against the enigmatic Builders. These Builders have erected mysterious structures called Pillars, blanketing one-third of the planet's surface and incapacitating all aircraft developed post the 1970s, necessitating Hell Alice to employ archaic equipment to combat their advanced technology. The plot follows Aria Hitotose, a talented Japanese schoolgirl who displays unwavering determination even in the direst of circumstances. A botched operation to rescue survivors from a decimated base compels Aria to band together with her loyal companions to save the day.
