Due to a disastrous accident that leaves him seriously injured and lacking the drive to continue racing, Hayato Kazami is forced to withdraw from the 12th Cyber Formula World Grand Prix. His faithful friend, Asuka Sugo, becomes his caretaker and he ultimately proposes to her, vowing to never race again. Nevertheless, as time goes by, Hayato starts to question whether this is truly what he wants, and ultimately decides to make a comeback. As the 13th Cyber Formula World Grand Prix commences, he must diligently work to regain his former glory, earn back Asuka's trust after breaking his promise, and thwart Henri Clayton's sinister schemes. Throughout it all, he learns that his accident was brought on by the dangerous "Zero Zone."
