Taking us back in time, this series offers a peek into the formative years of the Saiyuuki squad as they set off on their journey to the west. The initial OVA acquaints us with Sanzo and his guide, along with Ukoku (ultimately renamed Ni Jianyi). In the second OVA, Goku and Sanzo cross paths for the very first time. The third chapter plumbs into Hakkai's previous wrongdoings and consequent prosecution (as witnessed in the initial installment of "Saiyuuki"), and his decision to reside under Gojyo's roof.
