A new installment in the Ranma ½ franchise, in the form of an animation, was created twelve years after the manga's conclusion and the final episode of its OVA. This new 30-minute special was showcased at the "It's a Rumic World" exhibition, featuring the art of Rumiko Takahashi. Based on the "Nightmare! Incense of Spring Sleep" story from volume 34 of the manga, the special was screened exclusively on odd-numbered days in Tokyo, between July 30th and August 11th.
