The concept of justice and its execution has undergone a transformation in the 22nd century. In Japan, the Sibyl System is employed to maintain objectivity in assessing and determining the level of threat posed by each citizen, by analyzing their mental state for any indication of criminal intent, referred to as Psycho-Pass. The Inspectors, aided by Enforcers – Inspectors who have become latent criminals and are given relative freedom in exchange for performing their superiors' dirty tasks – keep the law in check, resorting to deadly force to subdue even the slightest manifestation of maleficent intent. Akane Tsunemori, a young woman with a pure conscience, ventures into this world of law enforcement, working alongside experienced Enforcer Shinya Kougami. However, she discovers that the judgments rendered by the Sibyl System are anything but infallible, contrary to what her colleagues believe. Suddenly, Akane faces the shocking reality that forces her to scrutinize the very concept of justice and whether it is feasible to maintain it using a system that may already be corrupt. Note: During the Summer 2014 season, Psycho-Pass was broadcast again with new edits and adjustments to fit into an hour-long episode format. These changes included enhancements to the animation, and new scenes added in the beginning and middle of each episode.
