During their travels through Johto, Satoshi and his group decide to take a slight detour to Altomare, a scenic island locale famous for its annual Pokémon Water Race. While Takeshi and Kasumi engage in the festivities, Satoshi finds himself caught up in a bizarre string of events. These include losing the race, witnessing a group of women viciously attacking a young girl with their Pokémon, and then having the same girl, who he had just rescued, deny ever meeting him or Pikachu! Fortunately, Satoshi ultimately discovers that the girl he rescued was actually Latias, a Pokémon who has the ability to take on a human form known as Kanon. According to legend, Latias and Latios, collectively known as the Eon Pokémon, serve as guardians of Altomare and its mystical Soul Dew. The locals, including infamous thief sisters Zanner and Lyon, are well aware of this. It was they who attacked Latias previously. With the Eon Pokémon and Soul Dew in their sights, Satoshi is compelled to thwart the sisters' plans before they can trigger chaos in the city.
