SUMMARY
The inspiration for this brief movie stemmed from Jia Pingwa's 1989 prose that commemorated the life of his father. The narrative takes place on the North Shannxi Loess Plateau and follows two young boys' attempt to sell their family's only valuable possession, a pig, in exchange for sustenance. However, they encounter problems along the way. The film's aesthetic is carefully crafted to showcase the stunning and vast landscapes of the Loess Plateau and capture the uncomplicated existence of its people.
Set against the backdrop of the trying times that besieged northwestern China in the 1970s, this is a darkly humorous portrayal.
