After generations of hostility and bewilderment, the Japanese society has eventually come to accept the youkai. In their endeavor to integrate species, customary youngsters now share schools with humanoid supernatural beings. Shingo Ohashi realizes that he is falling for Hatoko "Petoko" Fujimura, a young lady who is half-youkai and half-human. She possesses abilities that include overwhelming adorability that engrosses those around her (akin to a weak succubus), sticking to anyone who contacts her exposed skin (cured by her sleeping), and vanishing at the molecular level (which she can partially regulate).
