In October 2006, Straw Hat Theater, consisting of five mini-stories, was broadcast alongside episodes 279 through 283 of One Piece. Oda Eiichiro derived the concept from his comical manga sketches, which he originally created using only three blank sheets of paper provided by his editor. The first episode focuses on Chopper Man and his mission to infiltrate the hideout of the nefarious Dr. Usodabada. The second story takes the form of a culinary news broadcast that details the eating habits of the Straw Hat crew prior to Sanji's arrival. The third tale speculates on which member of the Straw Hat Pirates would become the ruler of an elderly care home. In the fourth episode, the Luffione, Zorocia, and Sanjino families compete for supremacy. The final short concludes the series by presenting the Straw Hat members as playful monsters, adding a whimsical twist to their adventures.
