At the heart of the "story of laughter and tears" is Okko, a sixth-grader who has suffered the tragic loss of her parents. Following her fate, Okko moves in with her grandmother to help run her hot spring inn, "Haru no Ya" (Spring House), and begins training to take over the business. Throughout her journey, Okko receives guidance from an enigmatic ghost, known as "Uri-bou", and finds support from a group of rather quirky friends. Despite facing numerous challenges and difficulties in her new life, Okko learns and grows.
