Living a simple life filled with kendo, friends, and an unrequited crush, Shuuzou Matsutani, or Shuu for short, seeks solace at a smokestack after being defeated by his fiercest kendo rival. It is there that he encounters a mysterious young girl with blue hair, Lala-Ru, who possesses a fascinating pendant. Despite Lala-Ru's unresponsive demeanor, Shuu persists in trying to establish a connection with her. The serenity of their meeting is disrupted when a woman accompanied by menacing machines abruptly appears, with the sole aim of capturing Lala-Ru. Determined to protect his newfound friend, Shuu bravely battles against the adversary, but ultimately ends up being transported to an unknown desert world. Overcoming various obstacles along the way, Shuu discovers that Lala-Ru has the power to control water on this world, which is an often scarce commodity. Unfortunately, Lala-Ru's power source, which is her pendant, has been stolen, and Shuu finds himself accused of its theft. Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku is a dramatic tale of a dystopian world, and the ordeals that Shuu must face to save Lala-Ru, the girl he met at the smokestack. Enduring torture, war, and hunger, Shuu is undeterred in his mission to rescue Lala-Ru, even at the cost of immense personal pain.
