When Raku Ichijo was a child, he made a secret promise with his childhood sweetheart. He kept a pendant as a reminder of their affection while his sweetheart took the key. As he grew older, Raku dreamed of reuniting with his past love, but his hopes were shattered when he was accidentally kneed in the face by Chitoge Kirisaki. Despite his normal high school life, Raku's family is the leader of the infamous yakuza gang known as the Shuei-Gumi. He's thrust into family affairs when he's coerced into dating Chitoge, the daughter of a rival gang's boss. Although they frequently bicker, the two manage to deceive everyone with their fabricated relationship. Soon after, Raku discovers that Chitoge is in possession of a mysterious key from her past, but she cannot recall its significance. Kosaki Onodera and Marika Tachibana also possess keys, further complicating matters for Raku. As he navigates through this maze of relationships, Raku is faced with another hurdle when his class decides to perform Romeo and Juliet for the school festival. Can the two phony lovebirds overcome their differences to deliver a successful play?
