Despite his aversion to temples and monks, Ryouken finds comfort in the impending birth of his child after a catastrophic accident leaves him with nothing. During his darkest hours, he turns to the wisdom of the renowned high priest Rennyo and sage Shinran, discovering the true meaning of life. Fascinated by their teachings, Ryouken becomes Rennyo's apprentice, leading to a growth in the number of devotees. Nevertheless, the Honganji temple becomes a target of other factions, causing Ryouken and Rennyo to escape Kyoto. They travel to Yoshizaki in Hokuriku, where they aspire to continue spreading their teachings.
