Under Yamato's leadership, Yamato, Sakura Haruno, Sai, and Naruto Uzumaki team up to catch rogue ninja Mukade who is seeking the ancient chakra Ryuumyaku concealed beneath Rouran's ruins. While the team is incompetent, Mukade summons the power of Ryuumyaku, engulfing Yamato and Naruto. Naruto wakes up in an unknown and hostile area where he bumps into Queen Saara and three secretive Konohagakure ninja on a mission. They inform Naruto that he has traveled back 20 years in time to Rouran.
