Jean Webster's novel, "Daddy Long Legs", inspired the movie of the same name. The plot follows the life of Judy Abbott, a New York-based orphan. During a superintendent's gathering with notable affluent figures in attendance, Judy is presented with a scholarship from an anonymous benefactor. As he departs, Judy catches merely a glimpse of his towering shadow, and thus nicknames him "Daddy Long Legs" in the letters she sends him each month, per his request. While attending the Lincoln Memorial school, she discovers a new world and establishes several friendships.
