Miyori, an 11-year-old girl abandoned by her parents, has closed herself off from the world and refuses to engage in any human connections. Her grandmother, who lives close to a forest, has taken on the responsibility of caring for her. Miyori's walks in the forest bring about an intense feeling of isolation, as she perceives the woods as empty and desolate. Nevertheless, her experiences in the forest reveal that it holds more than meets the eye, and she begins to open up to the possibility of new relationships.
