Rei Kiriyama, a 17-year-old professional Shogi player, has left his foster home to live alone. Despite his financial independence, he struggles to mature emotionally and grapples with various personal problems. His interactions with both his adoptive family and high school peers are far from ideal.
Rei's career in Shogi is also hitting a rough patch, with expectations weighing heavily on him. His wins and losses are inconsistent, and he seems to be stagnating in his rank.
Fortunately, Rei finds solace in the Kawamoto sisters: Akari, Hinata, and Momo. They invite him into their home and treat him with warmth and kindness, something he's never quite experienced before.
Through Rei's ups and downs, readers witness his evolution as a person, as well as his relationships both old and new.
