Maquia was a member of a rare race called the Iorph, a fabled species that could live for centuries, unaffected by the mundane concerns of humans. Despite being surrounded by her kin, Maquia was orphaned from a young age and struggled with loneliness. She longed to explore the world but was cautioned against it by her clan's leader.
However, fate intervened when the power-hungry Mezarte kingdom invaded her land, seeking to add the Iorph's immortality to their bloodline, just as they had earlier subdued the last remaining giant dragons, the Renato. The humans and Renato slaughtered most of the Iorph, leaving Maquia abducted and alone in a distant forest, except for the sound of a crying infant.
Determined to survive, Maquia found the newborn in an old destroyed village and adopted him as her own, naming him Ariel. Despite the challenges of raising a child who ages faster than her and adapting to the human world, Maquia remained steadfast in her resolve to make it work.
