The narrative is based on a celebrated Chinese legend that centers on a lad by the name of Chenxiang. His lineage is exceptional because his mother is a deity and his father was a mortal. Regrettably, his father is killed by Erlang Shen, his uncle and the story's antagonist. Chenxiang's mother manages to escape and give birth to him, but he grows up oblivious of his family's remarkable background. His mother wields a magical Lotus Lantern to fight malevolence whenever they are in jeopardy. Despite her endeavors, Chenxiang is seized by his uncle, who also confines his mother. Chenxiang is taken by his uncle to his abode located in the holy mountains. Although he is young, he dodges his uncle's clutches and discovers his mother's lost Lotus Lantern. With several figures from the Chinese mythos aiding him, Chenxiang conquers many obstacles, developing into a resolute young man. He opposes his uncle to secure his mother's freedom and win the affection of his true love.
