In 1988, J.C. Staff produced and aired the anime TV special "Konpeito no Ryu" which ran for 45 minutes. Following a martial arts adventure storyline reminiscent of Dragon Ball, the show introduced villains similar to those from the Red Ribbon Army, classic Toriyama mecha, and a clone of Son Gohan's Haiya Dragon. Kosukesama Rikimarusama were the main characters of the series.
