Lately, Nanami Momozono - a high school student - has been struggling with a slew of issues. To start, her father's unpaid debts have left them with nothing. With nowhere to turn, Nanami intervenes when she spots a stranger being harassed by a dog. After helping him, Nanami opens up about her predicament. Surprisingly, the man offers his home as a gesture of gratitude. As it turns out, the house is a dilapidated shrine, and Nanami tries to leave as soon as she discovers this. However, two shrine spirits and a fox named Tomoe catch Nanami before she can escape. They mistake her for the man she rescued - Mikage, the deity of the shrine. Convinced Mikage sent her as a replacement god, Tomoe deserts her, unwilling to serve a mere human. Despite her apprehensions, Nanami immerses herself in her newfound divine duties. However, if she wants to succeed, she needs the support of a certain hot-headed fox. Yet, in her clumsy pursuit of Tomoe, she lands in trouble and unwittingly signs a contract with him. Together, the two must navigate the path of godliness as a divine duo. But the journey won't be easy as new challenges arise: a hungry youkai seeking to devour Nanami, a snake who desires to wed her, and Nanami's own unexpected affection for her faunus friend.
