At the helm of Japan in 1931 was Prince Tokugawa Yoshinobu, a commanding 94-year-old figure with absolute power. While remnants of Meiji-era customs were still evident, modern advancements in scientific technology and Onmyodo, a Japanese esoteric cosmology, were also present. However, lurking behind the facade of progress was Kuchinawa, plotting to kill the prince and topple his regime. To take down these insurgents, Nue, a covert government executioner group, was enlisted. Among them was Sawa Yukimura, whose past was marked by the Kuchinawa leader's atrocities against her family, thus driving her to seek revenge. Intriguingly, the show's premiere on Hulu preceded its television broadcast, which aired on April 7th, 2021, by a week.
