In 1868, George Joestar, an English nobleman, and his son Jonathan are indebted to Dario Brando after an incident involving their carriage. However, Dario has ulterior motives and plans to take advantage of their presumed deaths by searching through their possessions. Following Dario's passing 12 years later, George adopts his son, Dio, with the intention of repaying the debt.
While Dio publicly praises his new family, he harbors a secret desire to steal their fortune, causing a rift between himself and Jonathan. By overshadowing his foster brother, Dio establishes himself as a member of the Joestar family. However, his actions cross a line when Jonathan bests him in a physical altercation.
The brothers eventually make amends, but their relationship is tested once again when George falls ill, and Jonathan suspects Dio's involvement. It becomes evident that Dio has more sinister plans in store.
