In 2035, the anime is set in a world where virtual reality technology has advanced to the extent that people can indulge in world travel and live event experiences from the comfort of their homes. A new innovation in the VR space is the live performance of idols for a global audience. As the craze for this entertainment increased, Kanon Private Academy was founded on Beginning Island to nurture budding talents in the field. The idols trained here strive to climb the ranks of the World Idol League, and the anime follows the journey of two groups - StarRing and Shadow - comprising six members in total.
