Mankind had attained the pinnacle of their power by conquering the galaxy. However, they were unable to endure their achievements as their resources were running low. As a result, approximately 500 billion individuals had to return to their planet of origin, Earth. The population became divided, leading to a period of turmoil and war as factions vied for control. Eventually, the government of the Gaia Sanction emerged and banned any humans from resettling back on Earth. Captain Herlock, a respected commander leading the invincible Elite Wing fleet of the Gaia Sanction, received orders to protect the planet. He proved himself to be an unyielding leader who inspired his crew. When diplomats were allowed to visit Earth, his temper flared, and he launched an attack against both the diplomats and the fleet. He chose to use dark matter to render the planet uninhabitable, which granted him immortality. After one hundred years had passed, Captain Herlock remained a legendary figure with only the Arcadia under his command.
