Edo, which was once the pinnacle of samurai prowess and dedication in Japan, was forever altered when extraterrestrial beings known as the Amanto arrived, leaving the hopes of samurais dashed. The shogunate, reduced to a mere figurehead, imposed a law that banned the display of swords in public. Nevertheless, Gintoki Sakata, a quirky swordsman with silver hair, proudly carries his wooden sword and remains true to the samurai code. He runs Yorozuya, a business that tackles various tasks and actively seeks out ways to help others in unconventional and surprising ways. Alongside Gintoki are Shinpachi Shimura, a boy with glasses striving to become a samurai, Kagura, a spirited girl blessed with superhuman strength and an insatiable appetite, and Sadaharu, their colossal pet dog who enjoys biting people's heads. Throughout their travels in Edo's ever-changing world, the Yorozuya faces diverse challenges, from dealing with extraterrestrial royalty to engaging in fights with local gangs.
