The anime's tale commences when the king's counselor initiates a witch hunt that places the Makai Knights and Makai Priests, charged with safeguarding the populace, in peril. One of the condemned Makai Priests gives birth to Leon Lewis before facing the stake, but her child's father, a Makai Knight, rescues him without ever introducing him to his mother. As Leon reaches adulthood, he learns he is a descendant of the Gold Knights and inherits the Gold Armor. Meanwhile, the ailing king has been usurped by his adviser, leaving Prince Alfonso and his mother banished. Aware of the Gold Knight legend, Prince Alfonso sets off on a mission to recover his throne.
