Prior to hearing Kenshiro's famous words, "You're already dead," another Kenshiro roamed the menacing streets of Shanghai. The metropolis is constantly besieged by a war between two rival mafia clans competing for dominance. Amidst the chaos, a young girl named Erika is left parentless and is eventually taken in by martial artist Liu Fei-Yan. Unfortunately, misfortune follows the child, as each time Fei-Yan tries to find her a new home, her caretakers end up deceased. Fei-Yan resolves to entrust Erika to a man named Guise but instead encounters the powerful Kenshiro Kasumi.
