In a small coal-mining village in England lives John, a cheerful and spirited young man. One day, he discovers a lonely puppy among a group of sheep. John takes her home and lovingly names her Lassie. Over time, they develop a strong bond like that of true siblings. Lassie's charming and intelligent nature wins the hearts of everyone in the town. However, their peaceful life is interrupted when the owner of the coal mine shuts down the operation due to a lack of resources. John pleads with the owner to investigate further, but he only agrees if John brings Lassie to Scotland. Priscilla, the owner's granddaughter and friend of John's, cannot bear to see Lassie trapped in captivity. She sets her free, and Lassie embarks on a grueling journey back to her hometown from Scotland.
