St. Morwald's Home for Children is a picturesque setting with shining halls and sunny windows that welcomes orphans with open arms. One such resident is ten-year-old Aya, who is content and cared for by her guardians. However, her idyllic existence takes a dramatic turn when peculiar individuals, Bella Yaga and the Mandrake, choose her from among the other children.
As Aya adjusts to her new situation, she soon discovers that her new "parents" are genuine witches who have employed her as an assistant, not a daughter. Her obedience is essential - above all else, she must never disturb the Mandrake.
Nevertheless, Aya is determined to acquire the witches' affection and become a member of their strange and magical realm, despite the seemingly impossible obstacle in her path.
