Toue Inc., a prominent and commanding corporation, bought Midorijima Island in Japan some time back with the intention of constructing Platinum Jail – a luxurious, idyllic facility reserved for the world's wealthiest citizens. Unfortunately, the indigenous residents were compelled to vacate the area and relocate to the Old Residential District without any assistance after Platinum Jail was established. Rib and Rhyme are the two popular games on the island with Rib being a historical turf war game and Rhyme being a technology-savvy virtual reality game that involves an "All-Mate" AI (often resembling a pet) and an "Usui" mediator for participation. On the other hand, Aoba Seragaki prefers a laid-back lifestyle with his grandmother and all-mate, Ren, and isn't inclined towards either game. However, after being pulled into a risky Rhyme match and learning about disappearing Rib players, Aoba's desire for a peaceful life is entirely shattered.
