The Chosen Children are left in shock by Meicoomon's act of betrayal, a digital monster who had recently joined the group with her human partner, Meiko Mochizuki. Koushirou Izumi is determined to find a cure for the infection that has consumed Meicoomon while Takeru Takaishi's partner, Patamon, displays similar worrisome symptoms that have plagued other Digital Monsters. Out of the blue, Homeostasis, an enigmatic entity, contacts the Chosen Children, warning them of complete destruction that will engulf their world, along with the Digital World, which the Digimon community calls home. Their only hope is a "Reboot"- a complete reset of all the digital data- that will eradicate the virus before it's too late. Unfortunately, this means wiping the memories of all the Digimon, including those of the Children's beloved partners. The Children must now face the ultimate question- can they save Meicoomon before it's too late, or will this be the end of their journey with their beloved Digimon?
